Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. (April 19) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to take down Thiel 5-4 in the Jackets' 2023-24 season finale on Friday evening.
Waynesburg finishes the year 2-11 and 1-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Thiel falls to 1-7, 0-6 PAC.
The Tomcats won all three doubles points to open the match, with first doubles going Thiel's way in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-4).
The Jackets picked up a season-high five wins in singles action to take the match 5-4.
Ethan Lown (Lebanon, Pa. / Elizabethtown) capped his career with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 1 singles to pick up his seventh singles victory of the season. He closes the year over .500 with a 7-6 individual record with four wins in PAC play.
Keegan Raabe (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) and
Andres Rojas both notched their first singles wins of the season. Raabe took a 6-4, 6-1 win at third singles while Rojas was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles.
Shane Hughes won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles and
Thomas Torcaso won in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
The Jackets bid farewell to four May graduates in Lown,
Adam Huckestein (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch), Raabe and Hughes.
