GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 4) – The Waynesburg University baseball team closed its regular season with two games at No. 3 Dennison on Saturday. The Jackets fell 9-2 and 8-1 to the Big Red.
Waynesburg closes the regular season at 23-17 while Denison stands at 35-5.
Game 1 – No. 3 Denison 9, Waynesburg 2
Denison scored nine runs on 16 hits against four Waynesburg pitchers in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Big Red led 3-0 after one inning and 6-1 after four.
Denison added a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and came away with a 9-2 win.
Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) laced an RBI double in the fourth and
Ian Trott (Clairton, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) drove in a run with a base hit in the seventh for Waynesburg's two runs.
Trent Giraffa (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) returned to the Jacket lineup and had two hits and a double in the ballgame.
Dalton Lucey (Waynesburg, Pa. / West Greene) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs in three innings.
Game 2 – No. 3 Denison 8, Waynesburg 1
Denison lifted three sacrifice flies in the first four innings and then launched a three-run home run as the Big Red built an 8-0 lead through five innings.
Giraffa drove in Waynesburg's lone run with a groundout in the sixth.
Waynesburg used four different pitchers in the ballgame. Engelmore posted two scoreless innings and
Hudson Pincavitch (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) had one.
With results around the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), Waynesburg enters the PAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Jackets square off with No. 4 Allegheny at W&J's Ross Memorial Park on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
