MEANDVILLE, Pa. (September 21) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team dropped its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener in three sets at Allegheny on Saturday afternoon.
The Jackets fall to 2-7 on the season and 0-1 in PAC play. Allegheny moves to 11-3, 1-0 PAC.
The Gators took the conference win with set scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-15. Allegheny notched 41 kills at a .337 clip in the match.
The Jackets jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set and tied the frame at 11 and 12 before the Gators took control with a 7-1 spurt and led the rest of the way to lead the match 1-0.
Allegheny scored six of the first seven points in the second set and established a 15-6 lead. Waynesburg fought off four-straight set points before the Gators closed out the game 25-15. The Gators used an early 7-1 string to control the third set and secure the 10-point win to clinch the match.
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) notched seven kills on 21 attempts.
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) and
Krista Wilson (Greensboro, Pa. / Mapletown) each had five kills.
Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) led the Jackets with 15 assists and nine digs.
The Jackets host Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday evening.
