WAYNESBURG, Pa. (September 21) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team secured a 4-0 victory over Mount Aloysius in a late-night matchup at John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday night.
Waynesburg finishes its nonconference slate with a 4-1-1 record. The Mounties fall to 0-6-1 on the season.
The Jackets led 1-0 after an hour of pay before finding three goals in an eight-minute stretch to put the game out of reach.
Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) cashed in on Waynesburg's sixth shot of the game in the 20th minute of play. She collected the ball on a throw-in from midfield and dribbled to the top-right corner of the 18-yard box and blasted a shot off the left post and in to give the Jackets a 1-0 edge.
Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton, Ohio / Bluffton) nearly doubled Waynesburg's lead as she hit the right post in the 38th minute and Waynesburg carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Jackets outshot Mount Aloysius 10-3 in the first half and had a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Jackets had several good looks on goal in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as
Demaree Livingston (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Dublin) and Mohrbacher had shots sail high. Livingston had a transition chance thwarted and Waynesburg was unable to pounce on the loose ball in the penalty area to tally a rebound goal.
Livingston notched an insurance goal in the 61st minute. She shepherded the ball up the left side and beat the Mounties' keeper with a grounded shot inside the left post to put Waynesburg ahead 2-0.
The Jackets found another tally in the 62nd with
Brooklyn Loveland inserted a corner kick. Loveland found Mittendorf in the 18-yard box, who knocked the ball for
Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J. / Gloucester County Institute of Technology) to send a volley home as the Jackets went up 3-0.
Pepe scored again in the 69th minute as
Sutton Clark (Ashburn, Va. / Stone Bridge) played a ball forward and Pepe beat the goalkeeper and Mount Aloysius defender to the ball just inside the 18-yard box and fired in her second tally of the game.
Waynesburg outshot Mount Aloysius 23-4 (11-1 SOG) and had eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
