BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 1) - The Waynesburg University women's tennis team traveled to Geneva on Wednesday evening for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown with the Golden Tornadoes. The Yellow Jackets battled through several close contests, but the host squad left the court with a 6-1 victory.
Â
After Geneva (6-5, 3-3) picked up the doubles point by sweeping all three flights, Waynesburg scored a singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph courtesy of sophomore
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) at the number-four spot.
Â
Freshman
Taylor Stephens (Morgantown, W.Va. / Trinity Christian) nearly picked up a win of her own, but dropped a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 final score at third singles. Senior
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) went to three sets at the number-five flight. Unfortunately, she wound up on the wrong end of a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 final score.
Â
The Jackets return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they play their final non-PAC match of the season against Carlow. Start time from the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility is scheduled for 10 a.m.
