STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 18) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team defeated Franciscan 1-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday. Sophomore forward
Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J. / Gloucester County Institute of Technology) provided all the offense the Jackets needed to stay in contention for the top spot in the PAC standings.
A scoreless first half between the Yellow Jackets (12-1-2, 6-0-2) and Barons (4-8-2, 3-3-2) saw the visitors outpace the opposition in shots 7-4 (3-1 SOG). Pepe had two of the shots on goal, while sophomore forward
Alex Delaney (Sturgeon, Pa. / South Fayette High School) had the other.
The Jackets wasted no time scoring in the second half, with the game-winning goal coming in the 48th minute. The goal was assisted on by junior defender
Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J. / Governor Livingston), with her pass coming from the left side of the field into traffic.
Junior goalkeeper
Lex Greenlief (Chester, W. Va. / Oak Glen) provided three saves in the win. It was her sixth clean sheet of the season, which is good for third in the PAC.
The Jackets outshot the Barons 15-7 (6-2 SOG) and had all seven corner kicks on the day.
Waynesburg will remain on the road and play at Hiram on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
