Volleyball's strong start not enough to down W&J

Jackets fall 3-1 to Presidents in home PAC match

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team welcomed Washington & Jefferson College to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) home matchup. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-1 to the Presidents.

Fueled by strong offensive efforts from graduate student Larissa Howe (Tomball, Texas / Tomball) and junior Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) Waynesburg (2-20, 0-11) took the first set 25-22.

Unfortunately, Washington & Jefferson (12-10, 7-4) seemed undeterred by the early setback and rebounded to take the final three sets and the match. The Presidents downed the Jackets 25-20, 25-15, 25-11 to score the victory.

Zadrozny tied for the match lead with 13 kills, while Senior Riley Ruffley (Bedford, Pa. / Bedford) finished with a contest-best 26 assists and a squad-high nine digs.

Waynesburg welcomes the Geneva Golden Tornadoes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 24, for its next match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
