WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 19) - The Waynesburg University men's basketball team hosted Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday night for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup with the Bobcats. Despite a massive scoring output from junior
Cam Danser (Morgantown, W.Va. / Morgantown) the Yellow Jackets fell 88-74 to the Bobcats.
Â
The first 10 minutes of the game were evenly played and featured several ties and lead changes between the Jackets (3-3) and Bobcats (4-0). However, the visitors embarked on a 9-0 run at the midway point of the period to grab seven-point lead (27-20). That advantage grew to 11 just before halftime. When the two teams broke for their respective locker rooms, Waynesburg found itself in a 47-36 hole.
Â
Six-straight Bobcat points put them ahead 53-36 early in period number two. That advantage shrunk to as small as 10 points, but UPG seemed to always have an answer for a Waynesburg rally. The victors built leads as large as 19 points before settling in for the 14-point victory.
Â
Though it came in a loss, Danser showed off his offensive repertoire with a game-high 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting. He was truly impressive from beyond the arc, where he canned 8-of-11 attempts. The first-year transfer added three blocks, seven rebounds and two assists to arguably the most productive game for a Jacket this season.
Â
Junior
Aiden Blake (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg South) chipped in 15 points, eight of which came on 10 free throw attempts, and junior
Mikey Smith (Medford, N.Y. / William Floyd) logged his first collegiate double-double on 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Â
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when it travels to Ohio to take on Oberlin. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
