CRESSON, Pa. (April 6) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Mount Aloysius in the Yellow Jackets' spring opener at the Ebensburg Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Jackets fall to 1-11 on the season while the Mounties now stand at 2-8.
Mount Aloysius took two out of three doubles matchups to take the opening point. The two teams split the six singles flights to escape with the one-point win.
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and 
Aubrey Burns (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong) both went 2-0 on the day for the Jackets. They teamed for a 6-1 win at third doubles and Bailey won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Burns was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at sixth singles.
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) triumphed in a third set tiebreaker 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 at third singles. 
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) rallied to force a winner-take-all third set super tiebreaker but fell 7-5, 5-7, 10-1.
The Jackets host Carlow on Wednesday at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility follow Waynesburg's men's tennis match against Grove City. Start time is projected for 6 p.m.
