WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 9) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team earned a well-contested 4-3 victory over Carlow under the lights at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility on Wednesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (2-11) had been edged by the Celtics (4-8) by a 4-3 margin in the fall. Waynesburg got even in the spring season with four singles victories on Wednesday night.
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant) and
Aubrey Burns (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong) went 2-0 in singles and doubles action for the second-straight match. The duo teamed for a 7-6 win at third doubles but Carlow took the doubles point with 6-1 triumphs at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Bailey took a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth singles and Burns was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 6 singles.
The Jackets found their final two singles wins with
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) posting a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles and
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) securing a 6-1, 6-4 victory at third singles.
Waynesburg closes its 2024-25 campaign against Saint Vincent next Wednesday evening.
