WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University volleyball opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Chatham in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.
The Cougars (6-11, 1-0 PAC) took a three-set victory with set scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-14.
The first-set was a back and forth shoot out before Waynesburg gained a brief 21-18 advantage late. However, the Cougars stormed back on a 9-2 run to take the first set, 25-22.
Chatham continued their momentum into the second set scoring six of the first seven points and never trailing in a 25-16 set win. Waynesburg narrowed the deficit to 19-16 late but the Cougars once again closed strong with six-straight points to take the frame.
Chatham led wire-to-wire in the third set and took the match in three sets.
Larissa Howe (Tomball, Texas / Tomball) finished with eight kills. Kirsten Schaffer (Hiram, Ohio / Berkshire) and
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny), each added four kills and one block.
Riley Ruffley (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) led the Jackets with 12 assists and 11 digs.
The Jackets (1-10, 0-1 PAC) head to Washington & Jefferson on Friday for a 6 p.m. match.
