Waynesburg, Pa. (Sept. 3) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team competed in its home opener against Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles played spoiler as they took a three-set victory 25-12, 25-17 and 25-23.
Kent State Tuscarawas (4-1) started the first set rolling out to a 10-3 lead and did not look back, winning the set 25-12. The Golden Eagles again gained a significant advantage in set two with a 13-4 lead, triumphing by eight in set two.
The third set was the closest set of the match as the Jackets drew even five times, however Kent State Tuscarawas pulled through to win the set 25-23.
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) led the way with a dozen kills and
Paige Mortimore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) followed with six. Kirsten Schaffer (Hiram, Ohio / Berkshire) added two blocks, while
Macee Cree (Garards Fort, Pa. / Mapletown) led the team with 15 digs.
Riley Ruffley (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) notched 24 assists and 8 digs.
The Jackets (0-5) head to Cresson, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against RIT and Mount Aloysius on Saturday.
