Women’s Soccer swarms the net in win over La Roche

Waynesburg, Pa. (September 3) - The women's soccer team racked up eight goals in a shutout win over La Roche as the Yellow Jackets rolled to 3-0 in the 2025 season.

Waynesburg improves to 3-0 on the year, the program's best start to a season since 2018, while La Roche falls to 1-1.

Waynesburg had two-goal performances from Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton, Ohio / Bluffton) and freshman Kya Huggins (Fairview, W.Va. / North Marion).

The first goal of the game came in the 6th minute from Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J. / Gloucester County Institute of Technology) into the bottom right of the goal while the goalie was off her line. The assist came from Miracle Hershey (Lebanon County, Pa. / New Covenant Christian) from the left side with flick pass to Pepe. This goal was Pepe's first of the season to make it 1-0.

In the 22nd minute, the Yellow Jackets scored their second goal of the game from Mittendorf, as the shot was tipped off the goalie's gloves and into net. The assist came from Pepe, and the Jackets advanced the lead at 2-0.

In the 39th minute, Alex Delaney (Sturgeon, Pa. / South Fayette High School) scored her first goal of the season into the low left corner of the goal. The assist came from Gracie Smith (Monroe, Ohio / Monroe) from beyond the halfway line and into the center of the field and was then taken by Delaney and shot into the goal. The Jackets carried a 3-0 edge into halftime.

In the 52nd minute, the Jackets scored again from a header by Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) from a corner kick by Mittendorf. One minute later, Hailey Gilchrest (Hanover, Va. / Hanover) scored after a flick pass from Mohrbacher, putting the Jackets up 5-0.

The Jackets tallied their sixth goal in the 55th minute from a corner kick goal by Mittendorf, tipping off the Red Hawk's goalie and off another defender and into the goal.

The Jackets' entourage of goals continued into the 73rd and 85th minutes from two goals by Huggins. Both goals beat the keeper to the left. The two tallies were the first and second goals of her collegiate career. Rylie Alexander (Mount Clemens, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) assisted on Huggins' first goal and Jessi Jury (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) on her second.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Red Hawks 35-0 (20-0 SOG) and had every corner kick of the night with 12.
