WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 14) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team played host to Washington & Jefferson for a Wednesday night Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Unfortunately, a slow start doomed the home team, as the Presidents left town with a 73-44 win.
Points were at a premium through the first three minutes as the two teams managed just a pair of each to that point. While Waynesburg (6-8, 2-3) continued to struggle offensively, W&J (10-4, 5-0) found its groove and scored the final 19 points of the first quarter and the first five of the second to build a 26-2 advantage.
The visitors grew their lead to 40-14 at halftime and went on to claim a victory that kept them tied for the top spot in the PAC South Division with Saint Vincent.
Waynesburg was led by junior
Kara McFadden (Painesville, Ohio / Fairport Harding), who came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points over 17 minutes played. Senior
Kalista Friday (Woodsfield, Ohio / Monroe Central) nearly logged a double-double on nine points and a squad-best nine rebounds.
The Jackets will look to right the ship when they travel to Geneva on Saturday, Jan. 17. Tipoff for the PAC contest with the Golden Tornadoes is scheduled for 1 p.m.
