Men's soccer puts together impressive win over Westminster

Yellow Jackets continue push to the playoffs by downing Titans 3-0

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Westminster at John F. Wiley Stadium in an important Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets recorded their third-straight shutout win, taking down the Titans 3-0.

Senior forward Matthew Serrano (North Potomac, Md. / Thomas S. Wootton) gave Waynesburg (8-6-2, 5-4-1) an early 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute for his third goal of 2026.

The team's two leaders in points, junior midfielder Sarpong Kwabiah (Odenton, Md. / Meade) and sophomore forward John Engel (Dallas Ga. / East Paulding) each picked up assists on Serrano's goal.

Waynesburg carried its 1-0 lead into halftime, as the defense shut down multiple opportunities from Westminster (6-6-3, 3-4-2), and goalkeeper Zach Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) made two saves.

After senior forward Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) had some contact with the Westminster goalkeeper in the 59th minute, Waynesburg earned a penalty kick. The Yellow Jackets turned to senior midfielder Antonio Baires (San Marcos, Calif. / Calvin Christian), who converted to extend Waynesburg's lead to 2-0.

With 5:18 left in the game, Waynesburg added a third goal as Engel beat the keeper off a juicy rebound from a Johnson shot on goal. The goal, Engel's team-leading eighth of the year, also extended his goal scoring streak to six consecutive games.

Reed earned his fifth shutout of the season, stopping all four Westminster shots on goal.

Waynesburg led in shots on goal (9-4) and total shots (24-11).

The Yellow Jackets play their final home regular season game of 2026 when they host Franciscan on Saturday. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
