GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 15) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team traveled to Pitt Greensburg on Sunday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against the Bobcats. The Yellow Jackets swept the contest 7-0.
Waynesburg (1-3) earned the doubles point with victories at the number two and three flights following a Bobcats (1-5) win at the number-one spot. Freshman
Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and sophomore
Sam Norris (Natrone Heights, Pa. / Highlands) came out on top of hard-fought 7-5 win at second doubles. Junior
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) and sophomore
Noah Biser (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest) had an easier time of things at number three doubles with a point-clinching 6-0 victory.
Biser, Norris, Pohuski and Johnson all completed 2-0 days with sweeps in singles competition. Waynesburg wrapped up the shutout thanks to a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at the number-one spot from sophomore
Ethan Clawson (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) and a three-set battle at the fifth spot. Senior
Thomas Torcaso (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) showed proved his mettle by outlasting his opponent 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Waynesburg is scheduled to return to play on Tuesday, March 17, when it hosts Penn State Altoona for another non-conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
