GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 24) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team traveled to Thiel on Tuesday for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the spring. The Yellow Jackets downed the Tomcats 7-0.
Waynesburg (2-3, 1-0) picked up the match point for doubles play thanks to the efforts of freshman
Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and junior
Sam Norris (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) at second doubles. The pair earned a 6-1 victory, which, when combined with a forfeit at the number-three spot, gave the Jackets the doubles point.
The visitors proceeded to sweep Thiel (0-7, 0-3) in singles competition.
Sophomore
Ethan Clawson (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) battled through a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 win at the top spot, while sophomore
Noah Biser (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest) swept his match at number two singles 7-2, 6-0.
Norris completed a 2-0 afternoon with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at third singles, while Pohuski did the same with a 6-0, 6-1 sweep at fourth singles. Senior
Thomas Torcaso (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the number five spot, while junior
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) picked up a forfeit at sixth singles.
The Jackets get right back to work tomorrow when they host Washington & Jefferson for another PAC contest at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
