Baseball travels to PAC-leading W&J

Waynesburg gets swept by Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. (March 28) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday for a doubleheader with the perennial Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) powerhouse. The Yellow Jackets were swept by the final scores of 16-4 and 9-1.

Things started well for the Jackets (8-14, 1-5) who opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a failed pickoff move that resulted in junior Ian Trott (Clairton, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and freshman Eli Boring (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) scoring during the chaos.

Unfortunately, W&J (15-2, 6-0) tied the score in the bottom of the inning and took the lead for good with three runs in the third frame. The Presidents added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to seal up the victory.

Waynesburg tallied the final two scores of the contest in the top of the seventh, one of which came on an RBI single by Trott.

Boring led the Waynesburg offense by going 2-for-4 with a stolen base in his first game back after missing time with an injury.

One again, the Jackets struck first in game two. This time it was senior Noah Gabriel (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) who took advantage of a W&J error to sprint home and give his team the lead in the top of the third inning.

W&J wasted little time in answering the Waynesburg challenge, this time taking the lead with a two spot in the bottom of the third. The home team added two runs in the fourth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth to bring about the final score.

The Jackets step away from PAC play on Monday when they host Pitt Greensburg for a seven-inning doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m.
