Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 5) – The Waynesburg University baseball team squared off with Dubuque for its Thursday action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Spartans rode two big innings to pick up a 10-0 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Senior
Zach Scibelli (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) engaged in a pitchers dual over the first four innings with his counterpart from Dubuque (2-6). Both teams were still searching for a run as the fifth frame got underway.
Unfortunately, the Spartans got to Scibelli and forced him out of the game after putting up the first four runs of the day. Junior
Mike McCready (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) and freshman
Austan Runtas (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) settled things back down and delivered three-straight scoreless innings to keep the deficit at four.
Dubuque rediscovered its momentum and put the game well out of reach with six runs in the top of the ninth.
Three different Jackets (7-4) picked up one hit each in the loss.
The Jackets wrap up their stay in Florida by facing Anderson tomorrow at 9:15 a.m.
