WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 10) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team hosted Franciscan on Friday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. There were several tightly contested singles contests that ultimately decided the final outcome, which saw the Barons leave town with a 5-2 victory.
Franciscan (4-12, 1-4) earned the doubles point by sweeping the three flights.
The match was ultimately decided at second and third singles. The Barons pulled out a 6-4, 7-5 victory triumph at the number-two spot, before coming out on the right end of a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 battle at the number-three contest.
The Jackets picked up their wins at the number-four and number six positions. Freshman
Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) survived a battle of his own at fourth singles by the scores of 7-6, 4-6, 10-6. Junior
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) swept his match at the final singles slot 6-3, 7-5.
Waynesburg is off until Tuesday, April 14, when it heads to Westminster for another conference showdown. Start time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
