NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (April 30) – The Waynesburg University softball team opened its run at the 2026 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament on Thursday morning against Hiram. The fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets were ultimately undone by costly defensive miscues that allowed the fourth-seeded Terriers to pick up a 5-0 victory and drop Waynesburg into the consolation bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
Hiram (18-19) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, when the second of three Jacket (26-15) errors led to two unearned runs. A two-out error in the fourth directly resulted in two more runs coming across home plate to make the score 4-0. The Terriers added their only earned run of the game in the sixth.
The usually potent Jacket offense struggled in the loss, as Waynesburg managed just three hits, one of which was a double by senior
Braylee Corbin (Petersburg, W.Va. / Petersburg).
Freshman
Morgan Walt (Hunker, Pa. / Hempfield) suffered the loss in the circle, despite giving up no earned runs on just four singles and two walks over five innings of work. She posted a pair of strikeouts.
Waynesburg's run in the PAC tournament continues tomorrow against the loser of second-seeded Geneva and third-seeded Bethany. First pitch of that contest is scheduled for 12 p.m. in New Wilmington.
