WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 9) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 sweep over non-conference opponent Mount Aloysius at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility on Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets (5-7) picked up their third sweep of the season, which has not been done in program history since the 2005 season.
Waynesburg claimed the doubles point with victories at the number two and three flights after a Mounties (3-5) win at number-one doubles. Sophomore
Sam Norris (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) and freshman
Michael Pohuski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) took care of business with a 6-1 victory at the second spot. Sophomore
Noah Biser (Wake Forest, N.C. / Wake Forest) and junior
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) pushed through with a 6-4 win at third doubles.
Moving to singles competition, Pohuski improved to 2-0 on the day with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at fourth singles. Biser, Norris, senior
Tyler Gordon (Strongsville, Ohio / OHDELA) and senior Thomas Torasco (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) all earned 2-0 sweeps on the day. Sophomore
Ethan Clawson (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) capped off the Waynesburg shutout by taking a three-set battle at first singles by the scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Waynesburg returns to the courts and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action tomorrow, when the Jackets take on Franciscan at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility.
