2026-27 Men's Golf Season Preview

Tarolli leads even mix of veterans and newcomers onto the course

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Aug. 29) – Though the Waynesburg University men's golf team will have to replace one of the most accomplished performers in program history, the Yellow Jackets look primed to continue on the upward trend they've been on in recent years. Fifth-year head coach Mike Cipoletti will be tasked with melding a large class of newcomers with an accomplished group of returners to move up the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings.

For the first time in four years, the Orange and Black will be without three-time All-PAC honoree Matt Karpeal leading the attack. However, Karpeal will still have a presence with the team as he enters his first year as an assistant coach.

Junior Alan Tarolli (Washington, Pa. / Fort Cherry) is expected to take over the top spot from Karpeal after earning honorable mention all-conference laurels this past spring. The pair became the first Waynesburg duo to be named all-league since 2008. Tarolli capped his sophomore season by carding a 74 at the PAC Spring Championships, which were hosted by Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.

Juniors Brady Donovan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) and Braden Benke (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) join senior Nate Barnhart (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) as returners who represented the Jackets at the PAC Fall and Spring Championships.

The rest of the Orange and Black roster is completed by six first-year linksmen that will be looking to earn time in the team's scoring four.

Waynesburg opens the fall portion of its schedule on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Westminster Invitational, which will be contested at Avalon Field Club in New Castle, Pa.
