WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team hosted Baldwin Wallace on Friday night for a battle of the Yellow Jackets at John F. Wiley Stadium. The home team never trailed as it scored its second-straight win of the season by downing the visitors 3-1.
Waynesburg (2-3) wasted little time in getting on the board as senior
Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) took a feed from junior
Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J. / Gloucester County Institute of Technology) and found the back of the net to put her squad up 1-0.
Baldwin Wallace (2-3) evened up the score in the 32
nd minute, but Mohrbacher put the Orange and Black right back in control just 3:40 later with her second of the contest and fourth of the season on a penalty kick.
Waynesburg got a crucial insurance goal before halftime courtesy of junior
Abby Ngugi (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson). While normally known for her stellar defensive work, Ngugi logged her first collegiate tally midway through the 41
st minute to bring about the eventual final score.
After her offense staked her to a two-goal lead, senior goalkeeper
Lex Greenlief (Chester, W.Va. / Oak Glen) and her defensive mates took over in the second half. Greenlief tallied saves seven, eight and nine on the evening to preserve the victory.
Waynesburg held on for the win despite 11 corner kicks for Baldwin Wallace. The Jackets were also remarkably efficient, as they tallied their three goals on just four shots on goal.
There's no rest for the weary, as Waynesburg is right back in action tomorrow night with another non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest against Mount Aloysius. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
