PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 14) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team traveled to Carlow University on Monday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference match. The Yellow Jackets recorded a 3-2 win over the Celtics to claim their first victory of the season.
Waynesburg (1-5) picked up a 25-16 win in set one following a late Carlow (0-7) surge. In sets two and three, the Celtics rebounded with 25-17 and 25-19 victories to jump ahead 2-1. Waynesburg scored six-straight points to defeat Carlow 25-13 in the fourth to force a fifth set.
The visitors roared ahead in the deciding set by recording the first five points and eight of the first nine. The Yellow Jackets went on to defeat the Celtics in the fifth set 15-7.
Freshman
Bostyn Guinn (Dallas, Texas / Midlothian Heritage) recorded her first career double-double with a season-high 35 assists and 11 digs. Senior
Kristina Zadrozny (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) led the Yellow Jackets in kills with 19, while freshman
Shamere Waugh (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) paced the squad with 27 digs.
Sophomore
Katie Cottis (Wintersville, Ohio / Indian Creek) recorded three aces and freshman
Jordan Wade (Norfolk, Va. / Hayfield) finished with a team-leading three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets continue non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse against Mount Aloysius. The match starts at 6 p.m.
