Laurel Rush enters her 18th year with Waynesburg University in 2024. She will continue to specialize in coaching the mid-distance runners on the track & field team, as well as the Yellow Jacket cross country harriers.
Rush came to Waynesburg after a decade-long hiatus from coaching. During 1996 and 1997, she served as the head women’s track and field coach at Waynesburg Central High School. Prior to that, she was an assistant track coach at Fort Cherry High School.
A native of Latrobe, Rush’s collegiate background was rooted in the sport of rugby. While attending Penn State University, Rush was a member of the women’s rugby team from 1991 to 1996. Four of the teams she played on (1992-1996) made it to the NCAA team tournament.
Rush graduated from PSU in 1996 with a degree in agriculture education and a minor in forest science.
She graduated from Greater Latrobe High School in 1991 after winning three letters with the women’s cross country team and four letters with the women’s track team. During her time with the Wildcats, she was a member of the 1990 Westmoreland team track & field champions. In 1988 and 1991, Latrobe advanced all the way to the WPIAL team finals.
