Track and XC to host trio of one-day summer instruction events

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 22) – Waynesburg University Director of Cross Country and Track Chris Hardie has announced a trio of summer learning experiences geared around distance running and throwing for cross country and track & field athletes and coaches.
 
On Tuesday, June 30, Hardie and assistant coach Laurel Rush will host their distance running day camp from 6 to 8 p.m. at West Greene High School. Participants will get to experience a typical Waynesburg University practice that includes a warmup, dynamic warmup, event-specific pacing workout and a cooldown. The day also includes discussions about race strategy, practice strategy, pacing and race preparation.
 
Racing spikes are not required and the cost is $30 per participant. 
 
On Tuesday, July 14, Coach Hardie will host his throwing day camp from 6 to 8 p.m. in the auxiliary gym at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. During the two hours of instruction, he will guide attendees through a dynamic warmup and medicine ball exercises. He will also teach drills and exercises that can be utilized for all throwing events.
 
The cost of the event is $30 per participant.
 
On Saturday, July 25, Hardie, Rush and assistant track & field coach Bill Lubich, along with colleagues, alumni and friends, will present a free education forum for high school, college and recreational runners and coaches at the Goodwin Performing Arts Center on the campus of Waynesburg University. Topics to be discussed include diet & hydration, strength training, the differences between competing at the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III levels and different training methods.
 
The instructional day camps are open to high school athletes and coaches. Prior to the conclusion of each day, the coaching staff will share some tips on strength training, diet and hydration. Optional campus tours are available at the conclusion of each day camp.
