GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 18) – The Waynesburg women's soccer team looked impressive as they rolled to a 4-0 win over Thiel on Saturday.
The win evened the Yellow Jackets' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) record at 2-2 and improved their overall record to 7-6-1. The loss dropped the Tomcats to 0-11-3 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Freshman standout Courtney Ebersole opened the scoring at the 20:25 mark of the first period. The goal, which was assisted on by Catherine Moore, was Ebersole's team-leading ninth of the season.
Fellow freshman Melody Cox extended her team's lead to 2-0 at the 40:35 mark. The score was Cox's fifth of the year, second only to Ebersole.
Goal number three came courtesy of #Brittney Brown# just before halftime at the 41:10 mark of the opening period.
Waynesburg's fourth goal of the day, which was buried by senior Juli Amato, was assisted on by Brown, giving the sophomore a three-point day.
While the Waynesburg offense was thriving, a trio of Yellow Jacket keepers combined to shutout the Tomcats. Senior keeper Paige Yeich worked the entire first half and didn't have to make a save.
The only save of the day for Waynesburg was made by Jaime Williamson, who recorded the stop during her 33:46 of work in the second period. The final 11-plus minutes were played by Katrina Kelly.
Overall, Waynesburg out-shot Thiel by a 19-1 margin en route to the win.
The Jackets will try to keep their winning ways going on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when they host Geneva for senior night.
