Semple adds third-place finish at ONU during Waynesburg's last action of 2008

ADA, OHIO (Dec. 13) – After missing last weekend's RIT Invitational with a minor injury, sophomore 133-pounder Nick Garber returned to the mats on Saturday and dominated his weight class at the Ohio Northern Invitational, which featured 19 schools.

It was Garber's second invitational title of the season, his first coming at the Messiah Invitational.

Fellow Waynesburg native Corbin Semple placed third at 197 pounds to help lead the Yellow Jackets at the 19-team event.

Garber lived up to the number one seed that was placed upon him for the event, pinning his way to the finals in four bouts, with all four falls coming in the first period. Last year's PAC Most Outstanding Wrestler saved his best for last, sticking third-seeded Tom Pretty of Campbellsville to his back in just 30 seconds for his fastest victory of the day.

Garber led all wrestlers with five falls.

Semple got his day off to a fast start with three-straight wins, including two major decisions, to get into the championship semifinals. Unfortunately, the first-year standout dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision to second-seeded Rick Nusekabel to drop into consolations.

From there, Semple eeked out a 1-0 win over Brad Rice to get into the third-place bout. The freshman went on to pin fifth-seeded Todd Neptune in 2:33 to claim the bronze in a very competitive weight class.

Sophomore 141-pounder Pat McCabe and junior heavyweights Rich Janicki and Melvin Warrick each picked up a pair of wins at the event.

Following Saturday's action, the Waynesburg mat men are off until January 10. The team will use that time to allow some of their usual starters to get healthy as the Jackets host a big quad match involving Gettysburg, Washington and Lee and Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington and Jefferson.
