Waynesburg drops season opener

Yellow Jacket men's soccer team falls 7-0 at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. (Aug. 29) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team's season got off to a rocky start today as they dropped a 7-0 decision to the hosts of the Cabrini Soccer Festival at Cabrini College.

 

With the loss, Waynesburg drops into the consolation round where they will take on the loser of Alvernia vs. Polytechnic, which faced off in the other preliminary contest.

 

Cabrini's Patrick Tobey scored a pair of goals in the victory for the Cavaliers (1-0). Mike McDevitt and Jim Mattock tallied a pair of assists each for Cabrini, which moves on to the finals.

 

Cabrini held a 2-0 lead at halftime, before exploding for five tallies in the second half. 

 

For the Yellow Jackets (0-1), Simeon Williams (Paramaribo, Suriname (South America)) and Erick Burke (North Huntington, Pa.) had a shot on goal each and goalie Brad Davis (McClellandtown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) made nine saves in the loss.

 

The finals of the event will be held tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., while the consolation game is expected to begin at 3 p.m.
