WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 21) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team got their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the season on Wednesday night by beating Bethany 2-1 at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-14 on the season, while going to 1-3 in PAC play. The Bison fell to 2-14 on the year and 1-3 in conference action.
Waynesburg took a 1-0 lead on a header by junior Ryan Hartz, which was set up by an assist from freshman Jared Dobsch, 14:58 into the game.
After Bethany's Ari Dewhurst tied the game at 1-1, the Yellow Jackets got the eventual game-winner from sophomore Matthew Snyder after he buried a deflected shot back past Bethany keeper Patrick Coleman with around 13:30 to go in the first half.
Waynesburg out-shot their opponents 22-19 and got a solid night's work in net from senior keeper Luke Navickas, who stopped eight shots on goal.
The Yellow Jackets will try to pick up conference win number two on Saturday night, when they host Thiel in their 2009 home finale.
