WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 3) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to visiting Westminster during Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)-opener for both teams.
The Titans got a pair of goals from Sarah Nee early in the first half, both of which were set up by Kristin Kajari. Westminster capped their scoring when Amanda Embry buried the game's third score with just over six minutes to go before halftime. Danielle Struble assisted on the tally.
The Jackets were out-shot 22-11 in the loss, but held a 7-6 advantage during the contest's scoreless second half.
Sophomore keeper Katrina Kelly started and stopped eight-of-11 shots on goal. Fellow sophomore Jaime Williamson took over in the second period and stopped all three shots that were put on goal by Westminster.
Jenn Cantella started and combined with Amanda Hummer to stop a total of six shots in the Titan shutout.
The loss dropped Waynesburg to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in PAC play, while the Titans improved to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
Though the loss was a tough one to take for the Jackets, the game itself served as a fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer research. Through a series of raffles and item sales, Waynesburg raised funs for the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The effort was spearheaded by Waynesburg senior Catherine Moore.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they host Saint Vincent.
