PITTSBURGH, Pa. (March 24) – The Waynesburg University softball team extended their current winning streak to six games on Tuesday, when they swept a doubleheader at Carlow University on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets exploded for seven eighth-inning runs in a 10-3 victory in game one of the twin bill. They followed that up with a 4-3 triumph in game two.

The streak ties for the longest of its kind since the Jackets won six in a row back in 2006. The Yellow Jackets record stands at .500 (6-6) for the first time this season.

Tied at 3-3 after seven innings, the Jackets went to the eighth with international tie-breaker rules in place, which give each team a runner on second to start their respective half of an inning.

Waynesburg got the eventual game-winning run when senior pitcher Autumn Minor tagged an RBI double that brought catcher Kristyn Klueg into score. Amanda Baughman made sure Minor had some insurance to work with in the bottom of the eighth when she belted a two-run homer in the next at-bat.

Waynesburg eventually pounded out six hits in the inning. Three different Jacket hitters had three runs in the victory. Baughman came a triple away from hitting for the cycle, Minor went three-for-four with two doubles and Bre Kokladas went three-for-four with a double.

Game two was another close contest as the Jackets tallied two runs in the second and two in the third and then held on to claim victory.

The offensive star of game two was sophomore outfielder Amber Pivik. The Washington native scored the eventual game-winning run on a single by freshman Samantha Volponi in the third. She also homered and doubled in the win.

Baughman got the victory after tossing four innings and freshman pitcher Lauren Minor, Autumn Minor's younger sister, made her season debut by working three scoreless innings to earn the save.

The Jackets will make their home debut on Thursday, March 26, when they host Penn State-Beaver for a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
