WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 25) – The Waynesburg men's soccer team's upset bid of Geneva fell just short in the team's 2-1 loss during Monday night's home finale.
The Jackets (5-12-1) held the Golden Tornadoes (13-2-2) to a 0-0 tie through the first 76 minutes of play. That changed when David Gerlach headed in a ball off of a Geneva throw-in, to make the score 1-0.
The visitors added to their lead around two minutes later to take a 2-0 advantage. The Jackets got back into the contest by answering in the 83rd minute when senior Ryan Hartz beat Geneva's keeper on a pass off the head of freshman Simseth Saint-Hillien to make the score 2-1. The Jackets kept up the offensive pressure, but came up just short in the end.
The Jackets will try to end the 2010-11 season with a win as they travel to Thiel to take on the Tomcats on Friday, October 29, at 1 p.m.
