WAYNESBURG, PA (Feb. 26) – The Yellow Jackets delivered a stellar performance against Saint Vincent College on Thursday night in the Rudy Marisa Field House in front of an excited crowd, winning 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-20). The match marked the first and final meeting between these two programs this season.
The Jacket jumped out to an early lead in all three sets with the Jackets out on top in set one by a score of 7-1 at one point. Solid serves from Jake Reynolds and Jake Buss gave the Jackets much needed momentum. Saint Vincent would bring it back within two halfway through the set but would never get any closer as the Jackets serve and offensive attack took over finishing the set 25-17. Five different Jackets would have multiple kills in this set as setter Jake Buss dished out a wealth of assists.
The second set was much of the same with the Jackets out on top early 3-1 before two serve receive errors gave Saint Vincent the 3-3 tie early in the set. The Jackets would again look to their serve for quick points followed by a series of stuff blocks by Joel Wingard and Jake Buss to take the lead 8-5. The Jackets would again take the momentum and roll to a 25-13 set victory.
The final match proved to be closer as Saint Vincent took advantage of multiple holes in the Jackets defense keep thing score within a point or two through mid set. The Jackets would call a time out at 14-10 to regroup and adjust. After two quick aces from Jake Reynolds followed by aggressive defensive play from the Yellow Jackets' back row the lead would climb to 18-13. The squad would again complete a solid victory wining 25-20.
Jake Reynolds and Jake Buss boasted four aces a piece while Buss dealt out 23 assists. Luke Navickas lead the team with 6 digs. Jesse Famularo and Jake Reynolds each recorded 8 kills during the win. Other notables included middle, Joel Wingard who recorded 4 kills, 1 ace and 3 digs and 3 blocks on the night. Middle Nikolai Wojciechowski, also added 2 kills and 3 blocks.
The Jackets will be on the road again Friday for a tri-match at starting at 7pm hosted by Geneva College with Carnegie Mellon University before finishing their three day straight haul at home against Robert Morris and Carnegie Mellon starting at Noon in the Rudy Marisa Field House.
