WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 10) – The Waynesburg University softball team suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of Thiel on Saturday.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 7-13 on the season and 0-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. The victorious Tomcats improved to 9-11 on the year and evened their PAC record at 3-3.

In game one, the Jackets were able to keep it close, thanks in large part to a solid pitching performance from junior Amanda Baughman. Unfortunately, Thiel managed a run in the fifth and a run in the seventh, which was more than enough offense in the 2-0 victory.

Baughman yielded eight hits and no walks while striking out four. She also doubled for one of just two Jacket hits.

Things didn't go much better for Waynesburg in game two, as Thiel's bats exploded for 10 hits in a 9-1 victory. The Tomcats, who served as the home team in the second half of the twin bill, scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first. They stretched their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third and led 7-0 by the time Baughman homered in the top of the sixth for the Jackets' only run.

Junior Kristen Lautenschlager suffered the loss in the circle for Waynesburg after giving up seven runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits and two walks. She also picked up a strikeout.

Baughman went three-for-five on the day with her fourth homerun of the year, a double, an RBI and a run scored.

The Yellow Jackets will try to break out of a five-game losing streak on April 13, when they travel to Bethany for a PAC doubleheader.
