INDIANA, Pa. (April 17) – Members of the Waynesburg University track & field team traveled to Indiana University of Pa. on Saturday to take part in the Ed Fry invitational.
The Yellow Jacket women got top-three performances from sophomore Krystal Baker and junior Elisha Jones. Baker placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.87 meters (35' 8”), while Jones took third in the javelin with a heave of 41.78 meters (137' 1”), which provisionally qualified her for nationals. Both efforts were the top distances put up by Division III athletes. Sophomore Carly Schubert put forth an eighth-place effort in the shot put (11.73 meters, 38' 6”), which qualified her for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.
The Jacket men were paced by freshman throwers Kurt Bonnet and Travis Schubert. Bonnet was outstanding in the discus, placing second in the event with a school-record throw of 45.10 meters (147' 11”). The toss also qualified him for ECACs. Schubert placed fourth in the javelin after recording a distance of 49.89 meters (163' 8”). Like their female counterparts, Bonnet and Shubert were the top Division III performers in their respective events.
There was no team scoring in the event.
Waynesburg is next scheduled to compete in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Quad Meet, which will be hosted by Bethany College on April 21.
