BEREA, Ohio (April 24) – Three school records were set by members of the Waynesburg University women's track team as they and their male counterparts competed in Sparky Adams Invitational, which was hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday.

Junior Maria Shepas blew away the field in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase after finishing the race in 11:28.10. She not only won the event by better than 27 seconds, but she broke her own school record by more than 19 seconds. Shepas also added a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.71.

The Yellow Jacket women set a second record on the track, thanks to junior Mikey Macosko. The third-year runner placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.52. Freshman Jaimee Post added a fifth-place effort in the long jump of 5.12 meters (16' 9.75”), which broke the Waynesburg women's outdoor record.

Other strong performers for the Jacket women include sophomore Krystal Baker, who placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.55 meters (5' 1”) and second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.31 meters (33' 10”).

The always strong Waynesburg women's throwers shined in the javelin, where junior Elisha Jones and sophomore Marybeth Rocco finished first and third, respectively, in the event. Jones took the title with a heave of 41.92 meters (137' 6), while Rocco's top effort went 39.4 meters (129' 3”). Both throws were past the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 39 meters (127' 11”).

On the men's side, sophomore Jordan Wrask led the track athletes by placing fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 seconds. In the field events, freshman Kurt Bonnett placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 42.59 meters (139' 9”).

There were no team scores reported from the event.

The Jackets' outdoor season continues on Saturday, May 1, when they compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships.
