BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (May 1) – The Waynesburg University softball team concluded the 2010 season with a doubleheader at Geneva on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets couldn't end the year on a winning note as they dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker in game one, and followed that with a 9-1 loss in the late contest. The Jackets ended their season with a 13-19 overall record. They also finished in fifth place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with a 6-8 conference mark. Geneva ended the year with a 24-16 overall record.

Waynesburg got a stellar effort from junior starting pitcher Amanda Baughman in the opener. In her final outing of the year, Baughman gave up just two hits and two walks and struck out eight Geneva batters. The only run she gave up came in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

The Jackets actually out-hit the Golden Tornadoes by a four-to-two margin and put together several good scoring opportunities. Junior first baseman Elysia Orison led the Jackets at the plate with two hits in three at-bats. Junior left fielder #Nicole Forte# had the only extra-base hit of the contest, a double, which came in the third inning.

In game two, Geneva pounded out 14 hits and built up a 9-0 lead by the time the bottom of the sixth rolled around. Senior second baseman Bre Kokladas drove in the final Jacket run of the season when she singled in left fielder Krista Jackson in the bottom of the sixth and final inning.

Freshman Stacey Knox started and took the loss for Waynesburg.
