LANCASTER, Pa. (Sept. 23) – After giving up three early goals, the Waynesburg men's soccer team made a valiant comeback attempt that came up just short in a 3-2 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets (3-5-1) found themselves down 3-0 just 18:12 into the contest. However, junior Erick Burke took the team on his shoulders and brought the game back into reach. The third-year standout scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick with just over 14 minutes to go in the first period. Burke cut the deficit to a single goal just before the 40- minute mark of the half on an unassisted tally.
Unfortunately, Waynesburg couldn't mount any more offense as the two teams played a scoreless second half of soccer. The win improved Lancaster Bible College to 4-5 on the season.
Senior Ryan Hunsberger played all 90 minutes in net and made 11 saves on the day.
The Jackets will try to get back on the winning track on Tuesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Penn State New Kensington.
