Men's soccer comes back to beat Hiram

Yellow Jackets get to .500 on the season with 3-2 win

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team defeated the Hiram Terriers 3-2 on Thursday, Sept. 30, despite the Terriers outshooting the Jackets 30-10.

Junior Erick Burke fired out of the gate to score his 10th goal of the season, taking the ball around mid-field and weaving his way around the Hiram defense to put the Jackets up 1-0 in the first minute of play. The Terriers (4-7) answered, however, scoring consecutive goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Jackets started the second half in much the same way they started the first: this time with freshman Danny Griebert finding the back of the net on a Stephen Zimmerman pass. The score stayed 2-2 until the 75th minute, when freshman Simseth Saint-Hillien headed home the game-winning goal off a corner kick from Griebert. Freshman Dan Buzzard got the win in goal after making 12 saves on the evening.

With the win, the Jackets (5-5-1) improved to .500 overall for the first time this season. They begin conference play this weekend, when they travel to Westminster College on Saturday, Oct. 2 for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown.
