Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 15) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team snapped out of a two-game losing streak on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over visiting Westminster at John F. Wiley Stadium.

The win was Waynesburg's first over the Titans since 2005 and it boosted the Yellow Jackets' overall record to 7-6 with a 2-2 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. Westminster fell to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Jackets survived a first half in which they were out-shot 10-7 by the Titans and kept the game at a 0-0 tie before heading into the locker room. Waynesburg was able to turn up the offensive pressure on its opponent in the second period and finally broke through for the game's first goal in 70th minute. Sophomore Tim Fields notched the eventual game winner on an unassisted score that made it 1-0 Jackets.

Fields' goal opened the flood gates for Waynesburg, as two more Jackets found the back of the net over the next five minutes of play. Freshman Juan Alvarez made it 2-0 in favor of the home team after taking a feed from classmate Joakim Coleman during the 71st minute of play. Coleman added a penalty kick goal at 75:18 mark to close up the scoring.

As Waynesburg's offense was heating up, senior goalkeeper Ryan Hunsberger kept up his strong play and ended up totaling five saves to pick up his second shutout of the season.

The victory was part of Waynesburg University's third annual Kick Pancreatic Cancer Event, which raises money for research and prevention of Pancreatic Cancer. The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Beaver Falls to face Geneva for another PAC showdown. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
