BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team put up a good fight against one of the top teams in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets fell behind early and couldn't complete a late comeback as they fell 3-1 at Geneva.
With the loss, the Jackets dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in PAC play. The Golden Tornadoes improved 11-4-1 overall and 5-1 in conference action, giving them sole possession of second place in the standings.
Waynesburg gave up an early goal just before the start of the 14
th minute of action. After that tally, the Jackets kept their hosts off the board until the very end of the 67
th minute of play. Trailing 2-0, the visiting team finally got on the board when freshman
Juan Alvarez scored his third goal of the season during the 85
th minute of action. Sophomore
Tim Fields assisted on the tally.
However, Geneva put the game away with a quick response goal in the 87
th minute of competition. Senior
Ryan Hunsberger started in net for the Jackets and made two saves. Geneva held a 12-7 advantage in shots, while Waynesburg held a slight edge in corner kicks (5-3).
Waynesburg will look to get back on the winning track and keep its PAC playoff hopes alive on Saturday, when the team travels north to take on Washington & Jefferson. Start time for the game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
