WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 5) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team came from behind in the second half to take down the Thiel Tomcats 2-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (6-4, 1-0) won their first PAC game since Oct. 24, 2009, when, ironically, they defeated Thiel. The loss dropped the Tomcats to 5-7-1 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Though they were victorious on the night, things didn't start well for the Jackets, who fell behind 1-0 during the 27
th minute of action. Waynesburg cranked up the offensive efforts, but couldn't quite tally the equalizer as the clock continued to wind down. Fortunately, the Yellow Jackets were finally able to tie the game at 1-1 when Senior
Erick Burke took a feed from classmate
David Floyd in the 80
th minute.
Just over a minute later, the Jackets struck again, this time courtesy of freshman
James Sneed who found the back of the net with just 8:26 left to play. Burke assisted on the game-winner to give him a three-point night.
Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Hunsberger kept the home team in the contest while the offense found its rhythm. His hard work, which included five saves, earned him the victory in net.
Waynesburg will try to go to 2-0 in PAC play on Friday, Oct. 7, when Grove City comes to town. Start time between the Yellow Jackets and Wolverines is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
