Men's cross country runs at DeSales Invitational

Dugan places team-best 67th in 215-man field

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Oct. 8) – Following two weeks off from competition, the Waynesburg men's cross country team returned to action this past Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational.
 
The Yellow Jackets finished in 29th place out of 45 teams competing at the event, which was broken up into a blue race and a red race. The Jackets placed 15th in the 22-team blue race and were led by freshman Brandon Dugan, who placed a team-best 67th out of the 215-man field.
 
Fellow freshman John Allison added another top-100 performance after crossing the finish line in 29:48.89, which was good for 94th place. Sophomore Justin Angotti rounded out the Jackets' top three performers after placing 110th with a time of 30:13.13.
 
Roanoke College senior Tim Smith took individual medalist honors in the blue race, with a time of 26:05.61. Messiah senior Tyler Newhook (26:09.77) and York sophomore Tim Hartung (26:13.94) rounded out the race's top three. Saint Vincent and Messiah tied for the team title in the race, while Gwynedd Mercy placed third.
 
Dickinson won the overall team title at the DeSales Invitational and was followed by Allegheny and Messiah to round out the top three team positions. Overall individual medalist honors went to Dickinson's Dylan Straughn, who won the race with a time of 25:56.24. Allegheny's Robert Over placed second with a time of 26:01.29, while Salisbury's Ryan Jackson placed third with a time of 26:02.77.
 
The Jacket men are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they travel to the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble.
