Things to Watch For
*-Saturday's contest in Washington will feature the number-two and number-three scoring offenses in the PAC. Waynesburg's 26.9 points per game average is good for second in the PAC, while Washington & Jefferson is right behind in third place with 26.1 points per game. The two teams are also neck and neck in scoring defense. W&J's 17.6 points allowed average is good for third in the conference, while Waynesburg is giving up 18.4 ppg (fourth).
*- After several close calls under head coach
Rick Shepas, Waynesburg University will look to snap a seven-game losing streak to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday and end the 2011 regular season on a high note. While the Presidents hold a lop-sided advantage in the all-time series with their “PAC Backyar Brawl” rivals, the Jackets definitely haven't made it easy on the Red and Black. Last year marked the third time in the seven-game skid that a game was decided by five points or less. Last year's loss was particularly bitter as Waynesburg fell 31-30 in overtime.
*-Waynesburg's defense, which ranks second in the PAC in yards per game (290.1 ypg) will look to slow down W&J's offense, which leads the conference in yards per game (423.8 ypg). A similar battle will be taking place in the air above Cameron Stadium as W&J's passing attack, which leads the PAC in yards per game (257.8 ypg), will battle the Jackets' second-ranked pass defense (160.4 ypg).
*- Both teams' quarterbacks better have eyes in the backs of their heads as Waynesburg and W&J are ranked one and two in sacks. The Jackets have piled up 25 quarterback hits and the Presidents have posted 24. However, W&J will face a much stiffer resistance in getting to Graham, as the Yellow Jacket offensive line has given up the sixth fewest sacks in Division III with four, which are 11 less than the next closest unit. W&J's offensive line, on the other hand, has given up 26.
*-A Waynesburg victory could ultimately hinge on the turnover battle. The Yellow Jackets' plus-five differential is the second best in the PAC. The Presidents, on the other hand, have been plagued with turnover issues all season and sport a minus-10 turnover margin, while coughing the ball up a league-high 24 times.
