BETHANY, W.Va. (May 6) – The Waynesburg University softball team qualified for the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament for the first time since 2008. Unfortunately, it was a short run for the Yellow Jackets, who were eliminated on the first day of competition at top-seeded Bethany College, which was also the host team for the tournament.

The fourth-seeded Jackets first squared off with the number one-seeded Bison. Waynesburg gave the Green and White all they could handle, but the host team plated an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning was the difference in a 1-0 Waynesburg loss.

Senior Amanda Baughman did all she could in leading her team to the next round of competition by putting together a masterpiece in the pitching circle. The righty was superb, giving up just two hits and one walk, while striking out an impressive nine Bison hitters. The Jackets actually out-hit their opponents by a 4-2 margin and had runners in scoring position on two separate occasions.

Baughman, freshman second baseman Shannon Faleroni, sophomore catcher Lizz Bombara and senior center fielder Amber Pivik recorded one hit each in the loss.

The Jackets were eliminated in the late game by Westminster, which beat Waynesburg 3-0. Baughman started and took the loss after tossing four innings and giving up all three runs, two of which were earned, on five hits and a walk. She also recorded four strikeouts before being relieved by freshman Carrie Maier, who tossed the final two innings. The first-year lefty looked ready to take over the starting pitching job next year, as she tossed two no-hit innings with one walk.

The Jackets were out-hit 5-3 in the late game. Pivik, Falleroni and Bombara repeated their one-hit performances from the early game.

Waynesburg ends the season with a 16-16 overall record and 8-8 in regular season PAC play. Both marks are the team's best under head coach Lou Giachetti, who completes his third season at Waynesburg.
