WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team emphatically snapped out of a two-game losing streak on Saturday night as the Yellow Jackets scored a 3-0 home win over Pitt-Greensburg.
The Jackets (2-3) picked up all three goals in the second half of their victory over the Bobcats (1-5), but the eventual game-winner came on an own goal from UPG in the 49
th minute. Waynesburg doubled its advantage 20 minutes later when freshman
Juan Alvarez took a feed from senior
Evan Kaufmann and buried his first collegiate goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team.
The Jackets put an exclamation point on the win in the 85
th minute when senior forward
Erick Burke squeezed a penalty kick under the Bobcats' keeper to bring about the final score of 3-0. Along with a spirited offensive effort, Waynesburg got a fine goalkeeping showing from freshman
Austin Ganzke, who picked up his collegiate win in net. It was also Ganzke's first collegiate shutout, which included seven saves over 90 minutes.
Waynesburg will look to continue its winning ways on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when the Jackets host Penn State Beaver as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.
