MARIETTA, Ohio (Sept. 24) – A spectacular bomb of a shot from freshman
Jude Anuwe in overtime was the deciding goal in Waynesburg's 2-1 victory over Marietta on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (5-3) picked up their fourth win in a row by downing the Pioneers (1-6). Waynesburg took an early 1-0 lead when freshman
James Sneed broke free and buried the game's first goal in the 40
th minute of play. Marietta was able to tie the game up in the middle of the second half and force the game into overtime.
During the eighth minute of the extra period, Anuwe unloaded from 45 yards out and beat Pioneer keeper Chris Stollar for the win.
Senior
Ryan Hunsberger returned to Waynesburg's starting lineup after several games off and put together an excellent showing in goal to help lead his team to victory. The veteran keeper made 14 saves in the win and was the main reason his team was able to overcome a massive 30-to-11 difference in shots. Marietta also attempted 16 corner kicks to Waynesburg's two.
The Jackets will look for their fifth-straight win on Wednesday when they head back to the state of Ohio to face Wilmington. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
