Box Score
WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 17) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team battled back from an early 2-0 deficit on Wednesday night to pull out a 3-2 win over visiting Geneva at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Things didn't start well for the Yellow Jackets (8-6-1, 4-1-1), who gave up two goals to the Golden Tornadoes (7-7-1, 3-3) over the first 36 minutes of play. However, with time running out in the first half, the home team started to increase the pressure on Geneva, and with less than two minutes to go in the first period, sophomore
Becky Hotek cut the lead in half with her first goal of the season to make the score 2-1. Classmate
Taylor Bombalski assisted on the score.
The halftime break didn't seem to slow down Waynesburg's momentum, as junior
Missy Coleman tied the game (2-2) in the 59
th minute after taking control of a rebound and burying it in the back of the Geneva goal. Around 11 minutes later, Hotek struck again, this time with the game-winner, which was set up by junior
Susie Godwin. The Jacket defense took over from there and kept the score at 3-2 for the final 19:29 of action.
Freshman
Ciara Scott started and played all 90 minutes in net for the home team. She made three saves on the night. After both teams attempted four shots each in the first half, the Jackets out-shot the Golden Tornadoes 14-6 in the final 45 minutes of play.
Waynesburg returns to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when the Jackets host Washington & Jefferson for its annual Kick Pancreatic Cancer game. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
